SCRUM Simulator
SCRUM Simulator is a Windows game built in GameMaker by a team of five, including me, to help first‐year CMGT students learn SCRUM through hands-on experience. Players take on the dual role of completing their own tasks and assigning tasks to a virtual team, racing against the clock to finish each sprint. I implemented the dynamic stress mechanic so that as stress levels rose, in-game time accelerated. To give players a way to manage that pressure, I also coded a way to lower stress; the petting the cat interaction and added a lava lamp that changes colour depending on the stress level. Additionally, I designed and coded two of the core minigames, one simulating a rapid bug-fixing task, and the other a quick UI mockup challenge. Working with my classmates who also handled some programming, I sharpened my GML scripting (which is very similar to JavaScript) and saw firsthand how balancing stress and deadlines can teach real-world SCRUM principles in an engaging way.
